Morning punk thoughts - might seem obvious to you but took me a while to think that clearly&#x20;

## Low effort punks&#x20;

**For Artists/ Creators** :art:: You don’t need money to start. You don’t need to have an exceptional technique. You can start from nothing thanks to blockchain & NFTs. Everyone can be an artist.&#x20;

**For Collectors** :handbag:: « What if ? » Paradigm / an ode to the 2021 hyperspeculation. What if this ? What if that ? What if your creator just said « Hi » for a year ? But he promised lambos ?? Wtf ??&#x20;

Well, it doesn’t really matter - low effort punk is a reflection on the inner agent that we all have within us. Do you really like the art ? Yes ? Ok let’s see how long you can hold this … can you hold it through 2021/ 2022/ 2023 / 2024 … and more ? Or will you think « ok wtf lep you promised lambo » I’m dumping right now. For the space :

* Low Effort Punk is a message of total freedom/ anti establishment from trad and crypto art
* Low Effort Punks is an ode to the project that started it all (crypto punks) with a similar derivatives potential // turn everything low effort
* Low effort punks encapsulates all the crap that was released between crypto punks and now with a gradual release during the pump and dump years.
* Low effort punks is a reflection on the notion of community & NFTs. Kindness is a key component
* Low effort punk is a reflection on the link between Life & Art & having fun.
* Low effort is a concept / that requires a ton of focus and understanding of intentions and inner self - also a lot of work. But it doesn’t have to look super complicated. Genius has the fewest moving parts.


# Why

Currently LEP is hosted on an OS storefront contract. This is not independent and OS may take down LEP or add other restrictions to the collection. While this seems unlikely, we saw this in Jan 2021 when[ LEP was put in jail and could not upload new Punk](https://nftevening.com/opensea-reverses-their-50-item-limit-on-their-free-minting-tool-after-users-fury/). This demonstrates that OS is a difficult service provider to trust.

The reason for the LEP migration is to get the[ Low Effort Punks](https://opensea.io/collection/low-effort-punks) provenance on an independent ERC721 contract, with flexibility for future features such as on-chain metadata/art.

* This will make the NFT ownership permanent/indisputable (cannot be taken down by OS rules)
* It will also allow for trading on alternative marketplaces to save money for traders.
  * E.G. Blur/x2y2 have competitive service fees (OpenSea is 2.5%).
  * EST ETH paid to OpenSea since LEP started -- 6 ETH (244 V.T. \* .025)
* Ability to add traits
* Perhaps LEP will have future ideas that are able to be done on an independent contract.

# Cost burden

Migration involves fees, primarily is the gas fee. Each transaction on ETH comes with a fee, and the fee will depend on how the[ Smart Contract ](/erc721-migration/smart-contract)is written.

Current estimates ranges are below (calculated by MWSTW and WGV, these are lower/higher bounds, unless new options are discovered)

Note that since we are minting in independent order (not sequential 0,1,2), we have to use ERC721, **cannot use ERC721A, and there will not be gas savings for large migrations.**

It stands to reason that low gas is better, and perhaps we should **enforce low gas price** for migration.

## Who pays?

Simply put, it will be LEP, the community, or a combination of both.

Most likely LEP will crowdfund and that will be used for **automated reinbursement of gas on migration.** In short, in the transaction, it will estimate the gas price and transfer the same amount of ETH. The contract would be funded with sufficient ETH.
